Happy New Year Stefanie. I was too busy to comment before but now I have some time so here it goes. First of all you've done a great job on this piece and by the looks of it you are really dedicated. 33 hours on one piece is hardcore in my opinion. My likes: -the realistic feel of this piece -the lighting overall -the composition is great
Things that I think you can improve on: I would say first of all that try not to settle on a concept too quickly, you should try and use a couple of hours just trying out different compositions and settings on paper before you commit to any one design. I would say 2 hours without reference just doodling away ideas. That way you'll have a really solid foundation to work from. Remember that this is a concept group so we're more about the look and feel of the environment and the innovation than the overall finish. Finished illustrations can take a very long time and time is money so use it wisely.
I know it takes a lot to just enter a competition so well done and keep it up! I hope you have an epic 2013.
a happy new year to you too! thank you for taking the time to give me some crits. haha – for me 33 hours is already 'fast'...
of course you are so right – i really need to loosen up! for my last pictures i already did some quick sketches – but you're right i should give them more time and be more playful in the first stage. this is definitely something i want to work on this year...
Wow, reminds me so much of the warrens in Nexus Prime! Great job! I love it. The walls and platforms look a little clean, however. I know there's graffiti and debris, but otherwise they look brand new. I don't know if that's what you're going for, but might need to dirty things up a bit more or break some tiles or such if you're going for more of a grunge feel.
I hear you completely! It looks great, though, as is. You could probably tinker around with it later. Something I've noticed is its all about learning new tricks, haha. I would love to see it if you do play around with it, but yes... as I said... I really like it a lot! ^_^
